Flammability Characteristics
ASTM E84
ASTM is the E84 is the standard test method for assessing the surface burning characteristics of building products to observe the flame spread and developed smoke density. The above photos show the STRONGIRT and mineral wool insulation assembly before and after testing.
Results of test:
- Flame Spread: Class A, 10
- Smoke Density: Class A, 160
Test report available upon request.
NFPA 285
STRONGIRT has been tested by an independent third party according to NFPA 285-19 test methods and exhibited performance to meet the conditions of acceptance of NFPA 285. Additional information is available upon request.
UL 94
UL 94, the Standard for Safety of Flammability of Plastic Materials for Parts in Devices and Appliances testing, is a plastics flammability standard released by Underwriters Laboratories of the United States. The standard determines the material’s tendency to either extinguish or spread the flame once the specimen has been ignited.
STRONGIRT rating: V-0 (burning stops withing 10 seconds on a vertical specimen; drips of particles allowed as long as they are not inflamed)

Case Studies
Historic Building Addition - Johnson City, TN
In 2023, a restoration project was completed on a historic building located in Johnson City, Tennessee. In decades past, the building served in multiple capacities including a courthouse, bank, and post office. As part of the redesign of the building, Petrarch Engineered Stone Rainscreen Panels were specified for exterior portions of this building. Specifically, on the exterior façade of an added elevator and lobby entrance. To support these panels, 4″ STRONGIRT® was used as a cladding attachment support system.
